Careful, Make Sure To Read The Fine Print

The reading,  Does anyone read the fine print? Consumer attention to standard-form contracts shed some light on the overall idea of law and economics perspective on standard-form contracts. The hypothesis is frequently cited as a basis for advocating minimal intervention or regulation in consumer transactions, yet it has seen limited empirical scrutiny.

We have all been there, agreed to terms and conditions. But did we actually read the term and conditions? I know I don’t. Way too many words bunched together on a screen with a scroll bar gets me overstimulated and annoyed that all I tend to do is click “I agree” and hit “next.” But you wouldn’t just hit next if this was a legal document and you needed to know valuable information in order to be informed properly. So why do that on the web? It has been known over and over time we can not believe everything we see on the internet. So why do we trust it?

My mom told me over the weekend that the website, Temu was recently under investigation for selling consumer personal information. I can’t imagine how many consumers information was released. Temu is a very affordable e-commerence website that many people gravitate towards too, including some of my close friends. Temu is not the first and the last website to do this; Facebook, Amazon, and others are amongst the problem of containing and utilizing personal information for their convenience.

The internet is to be taken with a grain of salt. And it’s certain that we do every now and then need to read the fine print. Especially before agreeing to any terms and conditions. While on a grand scheme it may not be as serious as selling yourself on the internet, but it’s arguable that it’s pretty close. It takes not much of our time to protect our safety (and our money) by reading the fine print and making sure we do actually agree and understand before proceeding.
